Possibly the Coolest First Aid Invention Since the Adhesive Bandage

This one’s a quick shout out to the newest member of my first aid kit, Swabplus
antiseptic swabs. These are a simple little idea, cotton swabs with a liquid
filled tube instead of a solid stick. There’s a line printed on one tip of the
swab; you snap that tip off, and the liquid flows to the other end. They make
them filled with iodine, antiseptic, pain reliever for insect bites, etc.

Working Out on the Road

Okay, so today I’m being lazy both with regards to coming up with a clever
title, and by copping out and giving a link to another site as today’s post.
That said, I think it’s a valuable one. This time, it’s aimed at my touring
brethren (females included, but I’m pretty sure sistren isn’t a word).

So, we all know we should exercise regularly. And while some of the hotels
we stay in have fitness centers, they don’t always, and when they do, they’re
not always that great. And what of those who do mostly one-nighters and live
primarily off of tour buses.

Fit to be Thai\'d

Here’s the first of another recurring series of posts here on the site, where
I’ll share some highlights of the various restaurants I’ve come across while
out on tour, for both those of you who may also be on tour, and those who just
may happen to be in these areas on vacation or even live near them. To start
with, a triple header of one of my favorite cuisines, Thai food.

Don\'t Be a Jerk

Two quick notes, the second of which will explain the title of this post:

1) Apologies for the long delay in updating, I know it’s been over a week since the last post. It’s been a crazy week or so here on the tour, but I will be posting a couple updates very soon.

A Computer Crash, A Car Crash, and Disturbing Quantities of Condoms

This entry is one of those “Best of The Full Andy posts that some of you may remember my mentioning in one of the first posts here at OFTR. It originally appeared on TFA on February 29, 2004

Another ClearCom Tip

This is another quick ClearCom tip that came up in a discussion on the Theatre-Sound
Mailing List
this morning, and I thought I’d post it here, too. Many, many
times I’ve heard people wonder how you can get a ClearCom signal into a line-level
input, perhaps to record the calling of the show for training a replacement
or sub stage manager, or to feed a channel of com into the A2’s RF monitor station
so that the PSM or A1 can get ahold of him easily during the show. A lot of
people seem to think that it’s very hard to do, and requires some sort of expensive
or obscure interface.

Turning a New Page

This is a quick trick that I picked up from Shannon Slaton, who designed the
tour of The Full Monty that I was out on last year. I can’t think of
a show in today’s world that doesn’t have some sort of page system to the dressing
rooms, green room, etc. for the stage manager to make calls for half-hour, places,
etc. What stage manager wouldn’t love a wireless page mic, so that he/she doesn’t
have to go running to the SM console just to make each announement? What sound
guy didn’t just shudder at the thought of having to work that out and maintain
it? What if I told you that you could make this happen with minimal effort by
adding a single inexpensive audio adapter to gear that almost every show already
has on hand?
