New Toy from Lake!

We had a nice surprise at the shop this Friday, with a demo of the pre-production Dolby Lake processor, and boy, what a cool little box this thing is…

Now, when I first saw this in some press stuff a week or two ago, I thought the display was kinda cool, but just a silly gimmick. Having actually seen it in use, though, it’s actually quite brilliant.

Steel Toes With Style

I was in a Skechers store this afternoon, and discovered that Skechers offers a couple different designs of steel toe sneakers. That’s right…normal looking athletic shoes with steel toe caps. No more big beefy work boots or hiking boots (unless that’s your thing)…

Loving my iPod

Just a quick thought today…almost more of a half-baked idea than a full-fledged field tested tip. For the last year, I’ve become quite fond of using my iPod with an 1/8″ to dual-XLR cable as a source of test signal (usually using Apple Lossless encoded files) for checking sound systems, both in the shop and outside. When possible I use a dock or PocketDock to get line level and bypass the headphone amp, but in the shop I’ll often just go straight out of the headphone jack in a pinch.
