CompUSA, the Saga Continues

Friday, December 29th, 2006

(For the background, see my original post at http://www.onefromtheroad.com/index.php?p=121 and the follow-up at http://www.onefromtheroad.com/index.php?p=122)

We’re now at just shy of three months without my laptop. When Sean, the tech services manager at the CompUSA on 37th St and 5th Ave here in NYC, tried to remove the incorrect screw the service center had stuck in my laptop, part of the battery latch (which said screw goes through) broke, and he needed to get a replacement part to put it back together. After a couple weeks of unreturned calls for a status update, I went there in person last Wednesday afternoon to find out what the story was.

Two years down…

Monday, December 25th, 2006

Well, it’s official, One From The Road is two years old! While our anniversary is in fact Christmas Eve, I’ll be doing some belated birthday craziness once the holiday period settles down a bit–some sales and giveaways of items I’ve reviewed here on the site, some t-shirt giveaways, a sale on the Control Freak pickle, and maybe even some other special surprises.

In the meantime, here’s a quick gift from me to you. I want to introduce you to The Chocolate Swirl, a small company run by my friend Lisa, who–in addition to being a pretty cool stage manager–happens to make some of the awesomest chocolate truffles ever. Check them all out here. I highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie dough ones, although they’re all truly amazing!

As I was about to set out on my post about this site’s second anniversary (which just so happens to be today), I read the news that James Brown passed away early this morning in Atlanta.

Soundcraft\'s Vi6 (Yes, I\'m a Tease)

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Yesterday and today, Soundcraft had an open house demo session here in NYC for their new Vi6 digital console, inviting anybody interested to swing by the rehearsal studio room they’d annexed for a couple days to get the grand tour of the console and play on it a bit.

When I was in Vegas for LDI, I did have a chance to get a quick overview of the console and ask some questions, but didn’t really have the time or focus for a full top to bottom session. So, this evening, I headed over and spent a good hour or so talking with Soundcraft’s national marketing manager Tom Der and learning the ins and outs of the Vi6.
