Andy in Print (and a quick CompUSA update)

Hey gang,
Just a quick heads up that I’ve got an article in the current issue of Dramatics magazine, the Educational Theatre Association’s magazine for theatre students and teachers. The November ‘06 issue has a piece I wrote for them on the basic types of microphones, with lots of pretty pictures of some of the more common ones the average educational theatre type might come across and what they’re often used for.

Feel free to check it out here, bearing in mind that it is very oversimplified and generalized, as it’s target audience is educators who are not sound guys, and I was asked to keep technical terms to a minimum.

Also, there are a couple minor mistakes/clarifications I missed in editing it/that snuck in after I sent it in, so don’t bust me on those, LOL (in the section on dynamic mics, the word “amplifier” should read “mixer”, and later in there, things got shuffled around and my comment regarding SM god mics is referring specifically to handheld vocal mics, not dynamics in general).

P.S.-A quick CompUSA update. I finally made it there today with the computer, where one of their techs who I spoke with over the weekend was super nice, and tried to get the offending screw out. When it wouldn’t come out easily, he had me fill out a service request so it’s all on the up and up, and he and his manager are going to get it all sorted out tomorrow. To be continued…
