Hey gang,
A fuller update coming soon, but first, two articles from trade magazines that really “get it”.

The first is from the November ‘05 issue of FOH, where in an interview with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang A1 Scott Sanders, some great insight into what really goes into mixing for theatre is shared (”What? It’s more than just bringing up the mic when they come onstage and turning it off when they exit?! Really?”).

Second, check out this series of articles from Keith Shuford about his transition from a concert engineer to mixing the Vegas production of Mamma Mia.

I’ll be back later in the week with some thoughts after you’ve checked these out, as well as some thoughts on the flipside of the coin, including why some theatre guys (this author included) sometimes don’t give concert engineers their due.

Till then,
Andy

P.S.-For those who don’t know, Dec 25, in addition to Christmas and the start of Chanukah, also marked the one year anniversary of OFTR! Thanks for sticking with me the last year, and some one-year reflections, thoughts, updates, etc. will be coming at some point soon-ish.

Opps, hate it when I hit the enter key by mistake…

Anyway, yeah, what is the deal with some of the theater dudes? Some of the touring guys are no better with respect to what they think about theater (or corp) guys. Most of the theater guys I run into are pretty cool and very welcoming but there are a very few that have some sort of strange ‘tude and I don’t think realize that we all do the same thing, only differently. Here in town, a lot of the theater/production show guys started out in concert touring.

I hear ya, Dave…I used to be one of those naysayers, then I realized the hard way (just ask at least one hapless opening act who found out along with me!). But more about that later in the week :o)
